Google Talk (Jabber) and typing notifications

Post by 741 »

Hey all,

I've noticed that Adium seems to completely ignore typing notifications when using Google Talk. I made sure that 'let others know you are typing' is turned on in the account preferences, but I don't see anything.
I haven't filed a ticket on this yet because it seems odd that something like this wouldn't have been noticed before, so please let me know if you have the same problem so I can post a ticket.

I used two gmail accounts and Adium, iChat and Psi on the same computer to test this.
Logging in with iChat and Psi and typing in Psi caused a typing notification to shown in iChat.
Logging in with Adium and Psi did not trigger a typing notification when typing in Psi.
Logging in with Adum and iChat did not cause a typing notification when typing in Adium.
I've also noticed that the official Google Talk client does send out typing notifications.

I tried reinstalling Adium, making a fresh set of prefs, using a different user account, and the problem remains.

Any ideas? Is this specific to my computer? I'm running 10.4.2 on an iBook G3/700.

It's possible that Google has disabled typing notifications serverside... it sounds like that is the case. I'll ask someone on the Talk team in my next email exchange.
The duck still burns.
