AIM Away message, not status message

I do apologize if this was addressed in the past...but I can't find it.
For custom away messages, is there a way to send just the message and not the status info.
Like in gaim/AIM; I can see the full away message my buddies have up. But when I put up an away, all they see is 'Away' untill they actually IM me.

create a new away message, set your status as "away", click on "auto-reply with a custom auto-reply message", type the message that you want to be sent to people when they IM you.
is that what you are asking for?

I can't tell if that's what he means.
He either means that, or he means he *can't* get it to do the normal behavior, and contacts all read him as simply "Away" and they have to IM him for the reply to find out what he set the message to.

Yes...to a degree....
Basically, I want around the 60 char status limit. My friends who use GAIM/AIM set away messages well over 100 characters...and Adium reads that as their status. But mine get cut off because it's using the status field instead of the actual message...or something like that. My other option would be to make a vain attempt to compile GAIM on my iBook, but I don't want that migraine after I fail 300,000 times. Besides, Adium flippin rocks!
I input this into a custom away box:
Title: Custom Away
State: Away
Status: *Left blank*
Auto-reply Message: Insert Generic Amusing Away Message Here.
In GAIM or AIM....Adium would read that ccustom message as the 'status' on the contact list. But if I do this in Adium, all they see as my 'status' as the state I set to. And to get my actual message, they have to IM me, Like what Githon said.

There is no 60 character limit on Away messages. There is a limit on Available messages. Please actually try the thing you want... it will work.

Yes, of course, since you *left blank* the Status field and put something into Auto-reply message.
You want:
Title: Custom Away
State: Away
Status: Your message here.

I know. But there's a limit on status.

Then I get stuck with the 60 character limit of AIM. 'Status' and 'Away Message' are two different things.
...Maybe I should make screenshots of what I'm talking about....

Please do, because I'm confused at this point, when I had just been journeying through life care-free, secure in the knowledge that I know how away messages work. But the two of you have shattered my world

Don't be insecure in your knowledge of away messages... WindFox is mistaken.

Windfox is very much so mistaken. I think pretty much everyone seems to get it but him.
