support for QQ in Adium

Post by Goodie »

I am wondering why no support for QQ is present in Adium. QQ is the largest internet messager in China (with millions of users) and is by far larger than a Yahoo or MSN. Unfortunately there is no support for OSX yet and also the Windows client is pretty spyware intensive.

Is there any specific reason why QQ is not in Adium or will this be something for in the future?

More info about QQ at: http://im.qq.com/

Ask the Chinese :P
They seem to be very keen on using it.

I, on the other hand, would like to connect with QQ users, but without installing their crap client.

There seems to be a Gaim plug-in for QQ (haven't tried it yet):
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openq/%C2%A0%3Cbr

So it sounds to me like Adium should be able to implement this as well, right?

We're currently transitioning to using gaim 2.0.0. When the QQ plugin updates to work with 2.0.0, we'll take a look at integrating it. Please update the ticket shown above with the link to the QQ plugin.

I will be smart to implement that. More users, will mean more people wanting to contribute to the code and more people (and companies) making plug-ins.

More users does not necessarily mean all of that. But it's a nice thought :)
