There is a maximum on the different IM networks... Its 150 on most of them I think.. So I dont think you have hit the limit..

Personally I've gotten that error but its lying to me. The buddy has been added and works fine.
I've found that it tells me that when I move a buddy to a different group periodically. Don't know why, but seems to just show up from time to time. Keep trying to add your buddies, maybe there's just a glitch.

Yeah, it lies.

We're not sure why yet.

Incidentally, the limit is around 220 for AIM.

AIM can be different for different people (I think). It used to be something lower but they bumped it up. I think everyone gets at least 200. I have a 200 limit, so I don't maybe dchoby got lucky and got 220 somehow.

There are two AIM protocols, TOC (used by the Java web client and open for any 3rd-party clients to use) and Oscar (the full AIM protocol used by AOLIM, but harder to use). Many 3rd party clients use TOC, which has a lower contact limit than Oscar. Adium uses Oscar, as do any other libgaim-based clients.

Lying is a sign of trust and friendship!
