Buddy icons not showing

Hi,
till now I never even cared about buddy icons nut as more and more client start supporting them and more of my friends use'em, I'd like to also 'publish' my icon.
AdiumX has tabs to assign a personal icon for my accounts (icq,jabber) but it isn't transmitted... or no other client can use it.
Two scenarios:
1 a friend uses ICQ(Miranda on XP) - he has a buddy icon (set via his client) which I see but he doesn't see mine.
2 another friend uses jabber(AdiumX .8? on Tiger) - he has a buddy icon (set in adium) which I DONT see, NEITHER does he see mine.
IMHO At least two adiums should be able to see each other's buddy icon, no?
I dont wanna sound ... harsh or impatient ... so dont flame me if this a known issue or if there is a workaround please
