adding new contact... problem! help!

when i tried to add a new contact (im, aol)
the "contact type" bit was stuck on msn, with a checkmark beside it
i can't figure out how to switch it
please help!

Are you logged to your AIM/.Mac account? You can add buddies only while logged.

i don't know what you mean.
the address i use on adium is a hotmail one.

A Hotmail account allows you to use MSN Messenger, and you mentioned AOL in your first message. AOL's messenger is AIM. You can't add an AIM buddy to a MSN account.
