or am i the only one who finds it eye straining?
i'm sorry, i just switched from MSN to this adium, finding it great fun. except the typing space is just so TINY, it's tiring to look at.
is there a way to adjust it?
will there be a way to adjust it?

Option+Enter will give you more lines, that is the only workaround i can suggest at the moment.

If you keep typing beyond one line you would see that the field expands to 2 lines (and up to 5) as you type. No, there will not be an option to adjust or change this.

- The message field expands automatically when you type more than one line.
- You can click anywhere in the message window and start typing -- and it will appear in the message field.
- Setting a larger font will increase the height of the message field -- and I can't imagine that seeing a small font in a larger field is any less straining.
- This has been discussed ad nauseum before, you may wish to search the forums and see what has been said in the past.

You could go into Sysprefs and turn ZOOM on under the Universal Access prefpane. But I don't know how much help that will do...
And yes, I'm aware I didn't really address the question. I was just bored so thought I'd offer my 2 cents.

I'm not sure how it can be tiring to look at that area, can you explain that further?

MY GOSH am i pleasantly shocked by the efficiency of this board!! haha..
perhaps i'm too used to msn and icq..i'm used to having SPACE, just more than ONE line, when i write..and yeah, i noticed that it does stretch when i type more than one line.
maybe it's just habitual? but i'd love to be able to really stretch it out and make it bigger. with my msn and icq, i have my block taking up..30% of the window..now it's like 5% and i find it ..straining.
i don't want to make my font too big..cause the other party would see it big too, right?
would it be too much trouble to add this little function? to be able to stretch your writing bubble...i've been searching thru the msg themes to see if there's a 'big writing space', haha, but no luck..maybe this isn't smthg a theme/skin can help?
oh, one more question, when someone msg me, the history of a few msges show up (this i know why, it's in the settings) and all the text is in black and white, funny thing is , when i start a conversation in that window, i see the new texts and msges in black and white too!! but the other person sees the font colour..just me. hmm, odd? doesn't really bother me, but i thought it's a bit odd.

It would be a lot of trouble, which is why I am trying to get you to justify the request

IMO, one line is sufficient. I never write long messages anyway

it expands as you type, pretty cool. i had to get used to it too, but this is better than fixed height

the history in the message window is a different color so you know its history.

And the font color that appears when you send a new message is a function of the message style. I'm not sure which ones in particular will show the true color, but I know there are some.

i see..well, if it's too much trouble, and if my concern is of the minority, then i suppose i shouldn't expect this feature in the next updated adium

..is it something a skin/theme can fix? like if someone created a 'big writing space' theme (just borrowing the 'big icon' theme's name here, haha)..?? even if it's not adjustable, if it's big like msn/icq...i'd use it.
as for the text colour, yeah i know it's suppose to be in black and white to show it's history, what i meant was the new msges that follows (in the same window) were in black and white too. oddly enough the message style i use DOES show true colour for both parties, i can see what colour i'm using, what colour the other person's using, but in a window that showed history, the rest of the convo will also be in B&W. i don't know if that qualify as a bug or smthg, and i'm not complaining, just want to see if anyone else's adium acts this way as well.
THANK YOU ALL for all your replies!! i didn't expect so many and so efficient responses! this is a very effective msg board. i'm glad i registered. thanks a lot, guys.
now, i'll wait for someone to create a skin with big icons and big writing space, HAHA.

A "big input area" theme can't be created. The way it is... well.... it's the way it is. I recommend adapting if the suggestions here do not meet with your approval.

Sounds like a closing tag for the history aspect of the message style is missing.

oh i wouldn't say adium isn't good enough to have my 'approval'.. i just started using it, and want to see if there's a solution to it, and if it's really only me who isn't adapting well.
thanks everyone for your suggestions!! i'll try them out, and guess i will just have to get use to it, that's all.
thx.

There's really no advantage in having multiple lines when most of them won't be taken up by text. If it didn't expand, that would make sense. But... what's the point of something that takes up space and doesn't give you additional function?
