Stopping file transfers with AIM and Adium

Post by neilio »

I was wondering if this is something I should ask here or if it belongs with the gaim developers, but the issues with receiving files from AIM users is really driving me crazy.

The issue isn't that it doesn't work (I know it's up to gaim / the protocol to support this) - the problem is that if someone using AIM or iChat sends me a file, it causes all messages between myself and that person to be lost and not received until both of us disconnect and reconnect.

Is there any way in Adium to disable these kinds of file transfers so they fail without breaking the connection along with it? Or should I lobby the gaim folks to look into this?

Thanks,
Neil

I'm wondering about the same issue. My experience has some variations.

AIM file transfers work for me between Adium users, but if an iChat user tries to send a file, I don't see any of their subsequent messages. They can apparently see my messages, however. My testing shows that if the iChat user just closes the chat window with me and opens a new one, it usually resolves the problem.

Is there another topic/thread that deals with this issue? I found this post after using Search, but no repliles since Dec 2004...?

This will be fixed in Adium 1.0.

evands, is this supposed to be working in the svn builds? I'm still seeing the issue there, too - I had assumed that joscar would have fixed this problem, but maybe I'm full of beans.

File transfer works great for me in svn.

You're talking about messages no longer being sent.. maybe you're actually having problems with direct connect? That's not finished in joscar yet.

It could be direct connect - if someone tries to send me a file that's using iChat, I don't receive the file, and afterwards I can still receive messages from them, but they can't receive messages from me. Either they or I need to disconnect and reconnect to fix the issue.

They're not trying to send you a file. They're sending you an inline image.
