i apologize to all if i sounded like a d*ck. too many things are going on and i shouldnt have kind of released it in my posts. dbomb i dont think anyone should head it, i think we should all do it together. as for paying for it, what are talking about, the domain, hosting?

Someone needs to hold it, otherwise you won't have a clear statement, nor you will have any orginization of it. I agree, people can express how they would like it. But we still need one to hold it.

For example, adium wouldn't been how it is today, without Adam or Tick for example.

Domain names you can probably snag for like fifteen shiny US dollars, whilst hosting can be done for about seventeen dollars a year.

allright then dbomb we shall start. i guess sign up is officially open. if we want this done we must start. so who would like to help out and i guess how would you like to help?

and if you want answer these questions?
what domain would you like? (adium.org, getadium, etc)
if we have to pay for a domain? ( do we donate, who to?)
what would you like to see or incorporate?
how are we going to resolve the hosting? (we all donate and pay, use adium.org (if allowed and get hosting from adium project)

just wanna see what we are capable of putting up and making this site.

i know you can get a domain at godaddy for 2 or 3 dollars a year. as for hosting, anyone know of any good packages being offered?

I have a lot of time off now in december and early january... I'll be glad to help yoou guys in everything. IMO we should start trying to figure out what are the most important aspects of adium that we want to show on the page... maybe we should start making some threads here to to listen to the community. If it is a "get adium" site, we should focus on the really unique aspects of adium.... the chart that tick was talcking about seems to be a great idea.
After that we can enter in the desing of the page itself... and when everything is ready, then we proceed to think in the domain and hosting.

I just want to jump in and say that personally a "Switch to Adium" site makes more sense than a "Get Adium" one.

1. I think it is easier to get people using "official" clients/iChat to realize the benefits of Adium over other IM clients

2. Why would you be telling people not already using some IM client to "Get Adium"? It's not like a web browser which are used by nearly everyone with a computer now days. It's much more like trying to get Windows users to switch to Apple; they already have something that "works" it's just that Adium offers something that "works better."

well i love the idea of "switch" or "get" site but i definatly feel the community should come up with a new slogan, don't play off other companies advertising. Too many people do it and its sad, shows no creativity, It's like every one doing the "got milk" rip.

let's open a thread where we can submit ideas and vote on them, it'll allow the community to actually have its influence

I would go for adiumx.com/switch. All it really needs to be is a few webpages that says why we think Adium is better than other clients. Not a huge "getadium" campaign that tells every mac user to use Adium.

I could help out with html and css if there's nobody better to do it and i don't mind donating a bit to the cause if you feel hosting or a domain name is necessary

Switch is a go for me..

New threads to find out what the public likes, a no go for me.

Even though it's nice to have a discussion about it, it seems to get out of hand pretty fast.. I'd rather go with a survey of some sort.

Which could be posted on the forum to direct you too it, and on the main page of the site. So they can answer a few question, and their own comment.

That seems more reasonable then threads poping up.

. Anyway, seems like a nice idea to leave it as http://www.adiumx.com/switch. I don't think anyone will get confused by the name and this method wouldn't cost any extra money, right? If we were to make a comparison of AdiumX with all of the other IM clients, we'd need a program to make a chart. Maybe like Omnigraffle or something like that?
