No, you reread what I said. I read your post as saying "the tld doesn't matter as it's not used for what it is supposed to be used for". Even if this argument holds weight, which it doesn't as it doesn't apply to what I'm asking (how people would confuse adiumx.com and adium.org), there is still this difference:

aalright its not worth my time arguing with you. i dont see why you would even care if the users wanted to by their own domain and most likle hosting as well for an adium users site? users are trying for once to give something back to you guys and it seems like you specifically have a problem with it over something so stupid as a domain. why not leave it to the users to make?

Because we already spent the money on adium.org and it's doing nothing right now.

i think we should have a poll because this is the only way we will know if adium.org will confuse the hell out of people.

Also, users help out all the time with adium, I'm not sure where you got the impression that they do not.. Look at the huge amount of xtras that everyone has created, that's something that users of adium have done for other users of adium.

no but im saying a site actually made by the users for the users. you created adiumxtras.com we just made the products.

A poll is silly as it doesn't prove for or against the second argument, other than people's personal opinions of whether they like one domain name out of 200 that we come up with.

And a domain name doesn't mean that this still won't happen. Heck, it could be community.adiumx.com and it wouldn't matter, but we already have adium.org so I don't see the point of wasting that.

-no i said .orgs are now being used for person sites as well as band sites and others that aren't really meant to have a .org domain causing confusion.

well its not my or any other users fault that you purchased the .org domain. now did the adium team plan on making a community site adium.org by themselves or where you guys only going to make it and then leave it open to the users like you did with adiumxtras.com?

Look, the argument is that everyone knows adium as adium and not adiumx, so if someone went to adium.org they would see the great community website about adium and why everyone wants it and a nice download link, and if they go to the adiumx.com site they'd get the site the devs made.

So instead of doing getadium which nobody but fans and those who already know about adium would go to, it could be someone curious about adium and not even knowing what it is specifically.


Why do you want getadium.com so badly?

getadium.com seems more catchy and appealing to me and in my eyese probably to other users and newcomers.

edit: adium.org it is but please let it be made by the users as in the whole site.

I don't think people will confise adiumx.com and adium.org, however, I think it's fair to be said that people might easily confuse adium.org, with adium.com.

And as most of us know, adium.com has nothing to do with the greatest instant messenger on the planet

I think that's a pretty good reason to use adium.org. Especially because, let's face, the people who would use adium but don't are probably the same people who are smart enough to google for the product if they can't find the website. I just did a quick google search of "adium" and it brings up EVERYTHING related to the product. So if adium.org becames one of those pages that google brings up, you'll have a lot of newcomers checking it out. (Because really, when adium.com doesn't work, I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people would google adium and find the right website.)

Hey. If you want it so bad, do it yourself. Just go. Don't wait for us. Get the people who have volunteered and do it. It sounds like you want everyone else to do it for you. Not to mention, getadium.com sounds like such a fucking rip off of getfirefox. And if you want a list of reasons to download, we can make a page on trac.

Moral of the story, the idea is retarded, you've heard objections, if you really care, make it yourself.

Personally, I feel it is all set up in an easily accessible manner as is. Adding whatever variant of getadium makes it more confusing. I also don't see how getadium is necessary, or what it would be used for. How are new users going to find getadium.com? Wouldn't it be better to link them to adiumx.com? Everything they need is there.

I've also not heard a good reason for why we need getadium.com so badly. It sounds catchy? Not really. It sounds like a ripoff. We can give people a list of reasons? We can do that on adiumx.com. We can have a community? We already have a community. So for what reason do we need adiumx.com exactly?
