How do I create groups? I click on Add Group, type in a name, hit OK, but nothing happens.

When you create a group, it starts with no contacts in it. Thus, it will not show up. To see it, go to View > Show Offline Contacts. This will cause your empty group to show up.

Thank you. It's kind of strange that this would be unchecked by default, then, otherwise new users would end up with what I have experienced.

No, actually, it isn’t. Usually, instant messengers either don’t show offline contacts, or move them temporarily to another group.

* In 1.0 new groups will show even if empty (for the current adium session)
* We've been considering making showing of offline contacts on by default
