HELP! CRASHING PROBLEMS IN MULTIPLE PROGRAMS!

Post by Nefesh »

Hello,

After recently getting an iBook G4, I discovered Adium, and fell deeply in love with it. Great program.

Four weeks later, it's been crashing like mad- if I IM or am IMed in it, it crashes, every time.

Same for iChat, and AIM crashes on occasion, but more frequently than one would think. Also, my Halo demo, which I downloaded a mere 2 days ago, freezes when it attempts to get a server list.

I tried to get Coliquoy to talk to Adium guys over IRC, but it CRASHES IN STARTUP

Somehow these problems seem related. HELP!

Much thanks.

First off, there is no need to use ALL CAPS in the topic. Second, if multiple applications are crashing, this seems like a system problem, not an Adium problem.

Have you been having kernel panics recently? Is it only internet-based apps that are crashing?

Also, what version of Mac OS X are you running?

Aheh :D sorry about the caps there.

As for "kernel panics", I, while being somewhat computer-knowledgable, know nothing of kernels. Could you pretty please break it down for a lesser mortal? :)

And yes, it seems as though internet-based apps are the only things crashing.

I'm currently running version 10.4.3.

Sounds like a corruption or problem with WebKit, the system-level framework that powers Safari and other apps (such as Adium, Colloquy, etc.)
Try my software!

#define ADIUMX pimp //by me
#define QUESTION ((2b) || (!2b))
Have you hugged a programmer today?

Okay...how should I go about taking care of this?

I believe the 10.4.4 update includes an updated version of Safari/WebKit. You could install this update and see if it works. If not, you could delete the framework itself from /System/Frameworks/WebKit.framework and then run the update again, which would install the full file most likely... but I could be wrong. Safety first :) [back up everything!]
