Once the world was dark with only a crumbling brick of a chat program know as MSN messanger. Sure, it kept me in contact with friends and coworkers but at the price of my mac dignity. It was scum, but it was my only option.

But now, through glorious shiney clouds bursts Adium, i program that shows its built by real people coz it FRIGGEN WORKS!! and looks nice to boot.

Im seriously happen with this prog, its so well designed and comes to a very neat package. Still features to go but at this point in development its shapeing up wonderfully and can only get better. Hurray for the open source community! Building programs that dont suck!

By the users for the users.

So heres my little imput for a feature im sure is comming down the line:

At the moment file transfers, although working unlike msn messanger >_<, leave me in the dark with whats happening. Hopefully some day well see a transfer manager sytem, like just a neat little window that shows all incoming and outgoin with all the stats, would make things truely complete :D

hurray for Adium!!

Discuss here any features youve yearned for, might as well make this a place for brain storming

Welcome to the Forums!

It's already finished and will be released in the next major version.

General brainstorming occurs in individual threads in General & Requests, and commonly requested items are listed in a sticky thread at the top of the forum.

HTH.

Guys... first of all: your work rocks. Seriously. RAWKS!!

The only thing that really ticks me off (REALLY ticks me off) is the following:

(i) I'm typing furiously (I do things like that a lot: furiously).

(ii)Some contact on my list decides to send me some file and just goes ahead and sends it without a hello, even (they do that a lot: send stuff without even saying hello).

(iii)Since the 'Save As'-dialog comes up immediately (with the filename already selected... extention and all), I find that I've furiously typed whatever I was furiously typing as the filename of whatever it was that anyone was sending.

(iv)Now I don't know what it is: what it's name is or its file type. And that REALLY ticks me off.

(v)I cancel the download and proceed to give some lame excuse to whoever tried to send it –so as not to have to explain all of this– and ask if they'd be so kind as to send it once again.

(vi)As the file downloads, I wonder why this has been left like that... as it reminds me all too painfully of my MSN Messenger days when I'd be typing something (again: furiously) and the client would open a new window whenever someone first talked to me. I finish typing –oblivious to the fact that a new window was open and active–, hit the enter key, and find that I just sent half of my message to the wrong user. Man... I used to hate that sooo bad. And it nags me that AdiumX –such a well-written, but even more important: well-thought-out IM client– gives me its very own version of that nasty behaviour!!

Frustrating, indeed.

So, I hope that you can include a little dialog asking to accept or decline the files sent before the 'Save As' dialog comes up. Or, what would be even better, a feature like MSN Messenger's way of dealing with file transfers: a link to Accept and another to Decline right in the conversation window. that's the single feature I really miss about that piece of crap Microsoft calls an IM client.

Serge.

PS. Please excuse me if I sound ticked off... it just happened a few minutes ago, and that's why I ventured in here to look for either an immediate solution or at least promising post hinting at a possible solution in upcoming releases.

As stated above, a real file transfer interface (i.e. one that fixes your problem) will be in .80. :)

Just ask your friends politely to resend the file. I doubt they'd be offended and gladly resend. Unless they're jerks. Then let them rot. You don't need their file anyways.

Remember Kids! A little politeness can go a long way! Glee! :D

Oh, you're a ray of f*ck!n' sunshine, ain'tcha?!

But seriously... I definitely agree with your post. But that's beside the point. I always ask for a resend (politely or not is even more beside the point), because I literally have no other choice. The point is: I shouldn't have to. The program should handle file transfers with a bit more finesse... some sofistication, if you will.

Anyway... I wouldn't replace Adium, specially now that it's clear that –indeed– the problem will be solved on the next major release. :D

In the meantime, I'll continue cancelling unidentified file transfers furiously and asking for resends in a polite manner. 8)
