Redundant Growl notifications

When someone disconnects, I get a Growl notification. This is fine, I like to know who just left, etc. However, when you click the notification to make it go away, which, like when another buddy signs on and you click the bubble, you start a chat with the buddy. I don't think I want to chat with an offline buddy

Sometimes I use this to "send later" to that person since I don't show offline contacts on my list.
Regardless, yes, a different action would be more useful.

All I'm saying is that when you click on the notification, it should just go away without summoning up a chat. That, or have an option to do so.

Turn off the click notification via the Growl system preferences.

Will that make it so you can click the notification to make it go away, or will it make it so clicking has no effect? I've had this problem because I don't want to start a chat, but no matter what I seem to do, it always does the same thing...

I want to keep Growl, since other applications use it. I also want Growl to br used in Adium to tell me of certain events, like recieving a message in the background; and I like to see who's gone offline as well. What I don't really like is that when you click on a notification that says that someone's gone offline, it brings up a new, if not already chatting with said buddy, chat window with them. That is what is redundant.

1. turning off click notifications will cause Adium not to be notified when you click the notification; it will still go away when you click it.
2. I'd be happy for us to have smarter behavior when clicking notifications. Want to help? Make a list of each notification you use or that you think needs a special case (the default being "open a message window with this contact") and what the behavior should be, if any, when that notification is clicked. Please submit a tikcet (trac.adiumx.com) with your request and your list, and I'll see what can be done.

We'll hopefully have a close button in Growl .8 that would really help in this situation
