Line breaks stripped from pasted text

When my buddies paste text that contains line breaks into an IM to me, the line breaks are stripped when Adium receives the IM, resulting in the entirety of their message appearing on a single line. This does not appear to be limited to one specific IM provider--it happens in AIM, Yahoo and MSN. I did a little investigation on this, and it appears that the line breaks on the inbound messages are \n\n (these messages are coming from a Windows machine), and the line breaks are not retained in the display in Adium. When I send a message with line breaks from Adium to a Yahoo client on Windows, I see that they are sent as \r\r, and display properly in BOTH Adium and the recipient's client. Does Adium only recognize \r as valid line break characters? If so, perhaps it should also recognize \n?

What client is your Win friend using? I usually get large text chunks (with linebreaks) pasted from MSN Messenger on Win XP, and they turn out just like I'd expect.

My test where I saw \n\n was using the standard Yahoo Messenger client on XP. However, I have also seen similar behavior in MSN and Gaim on XP as well as Gaim on Linux.
