adium in menu bar
adium in menu bar
Is there a way to keep the icon in the menu bar like you are able to do in ichat? Like when the program is closed and quit. I know it is possible in ichat, like you can enable icon in menu bar. Any ideas?
This is not possible and is by design.
The exact reason is technical, but the shorthand is that this keeps a small program running in the background (a helper, if you will) that acts as an intermediary between iChat & the menu extra which isn't always a joy to code up and keep in sync between client and menu extra [essentially you make the entire 'status and connection' parts self-contained and then connect the main app to this as well as the menu item.]
In addition, Apple doesn't make the API (programming stuff) available generally for menu extras, thus they are hacks that aren't guaranteed to work. Adium uses the officially supported method.
If you feel this is a silly restriction (I think so) give Apple your feedback

Which I understand.
I was referencing your "menu cracker/enabler is evil" comment prior to the comment you reference. Both exist and both are valid to reference.
