Hi,

It seems that I am unable to connect to gtalk for some reason. I have checked the "use TLS encryption" and "allow plaintext authentication" box..
when i try to connect and type in the password.. it seems to be rejecting it and display the password prompt again. I was able to connect the same account with google talk software on windows.
i dont know what si going on any ideas??

when making a new account did you choose jabber or google talk? If you chose google talk then everything is already set up properly

I have tried both as jabber and google talk when setting up the account. None of them work. :( it used to work before too.. but just stopped working all of a sudden

I've never gotten it to work either. So today I tried various combinations of servers, ports and resources. It turns out that you need to change the port number to 5222 (instead of 5223) for Adium to connect. This works using both the Google Talk and Jabber account types.

devs, is the port number just mistyped? I found 5222 in the instructions here

I already have the port set up as 5222, and I still have the same problem. I put in my [correct] password and it looks like it's loading, then the login box pops up again. It won't let me connect...

Google Talk does use 5223. Adium automatically filled in port 5222 for me, though.

I guess it depends on what client and "resource" you are using? In our case I find it reasonable that it works with the port number provided for Gaim.

What is the "resource" all about anyway? Did you guys make a deal with Google to allow access? Or is it just for statistics? E.g. iChat won't connect at all if the wrong resource name is provided.

Let's ask around then. Has anyone gotten Adium to connect to Google Talk with port 5223?

I have. 5223, but I forced old-style SSL.

Which also works for me. It is perhaps that simple then.
5222 'new SSL'
5223 'old SSL'

Neither works the other way around for me.

I'm guessing it's for statistical purposes. Google not only allows but encouarges other clients to connect to Google Talk.

Oh, cool. So does that mean we can change that in our Adium preferences to anything we want (such as home or work)?
