Quickly Changing Alias

Hi,

I recently tried using Trillian on my Windows computer and discovered that you can simply click on a contact name to highlight it, click on it again and easily change the contact-name to a user-definable Alias.

I found out that the way to achieve the same result in Adium is to to a GET INFO on each individual contact, then go to the SETTINGS tab, then enter an alias.

I'm wondering if it's possible in Adium to have a quick and easy way, just like in Trillian, to simply click and type in an alias for a contact instead of the cumbersome menu path.

Thanks!

The quickest and best way to set an alias up is to do it when you add the contact. But is it really that bad to do it the way you have to anyway?? I mean you only need to set an alias once!

The reason it is so bad to have to do it in such a cumbersome way is when you want to change aliases for a whole bunch of people.

So right now, my entire contact list is displayed using their respective screennames - now I want to change ALL of them to their real names. Doing this one-by-one in Trillian took me a couple of minutes. Doing it in Adium is going to take forever...

I just wish it were intuitive - click to highlight, click to edit, done.

You may know this, but if you use to do this you may just always have the GET INFO window to show the settings tab. That way you may just press cmd + I and click on the contact (or in the oposite order).
- That way you may, if you want to do it to a lot of contacts just cmd + I, and then just click at the contacts with the aliases you want to change...

To clarify, the info window will change when you click on a new contact, so you don't have to close it and reopen it for each contact.

Wow that is good to know. It certainly adds to the convenience of changing information. However, I still think that the more Mac-intuitive way to change aliases would be to simply allow a click to highlight and another click to edit.

Thanks!

If you would like to request that feature, go to trac, search to see if it's been requested before, and create a new ticket if it hasn't.

Thanks! I just posted a feature request for it.
