Question re: AIM icons and the Address Book

Post by mipadi »

For every screenname on my AIM buddy list, I make an associated record in the Mac OS X Address Book with the person's screen name and any other information I know. I also drag an image into that record in the Address Book. I got into this habit because Adium uses the Address Book record's image for that screen name's buddy icon if that screen name has no buddy icon. However, I've noted something wrong with that lately.

In Advanced Preferences > Address Book, I used to have the option "Use Address Book image as contacts' icons" checked, and the option "Even if the contact already has a contact icon" unchecked. This allowed Adium to display the above behavior. However, I've noticed now that Adium does not always get the image from the Address Book and uses it as the contact's icon if that contact has no other buddy icon. I turned the first option, "Use Address Book image as contacts' icons" off to see if that would change anything; it did not. Turning it back on, however, makes Adium use the Address Book contact icon as the first priority, and the buddy icon as the second priority; meaning that if I have an image for a record in the Address Book, Adium uses that image, and only displays the user's AIM buddy icon if I have no image in the Address Book for that contact. This seems contrary to the intended behavior, which is to use the Address Book icon if and only if the user does not have an AIM buddy icon set.

Is this a bug, or am I just misunderstanding the behavior of the option or setting something wrong? If it's not a bug, is there any way to get the behavior I desire?

Thanks for any help.

It definitely sounds like a bug; please file a trac ticket with your description. You're using Adium 0.88 presumably?

Yep. I'll go and file a bug report.
