I believe this is at least partially intentional and partially an implicit commentary.

Here comes a slightly futile attempt to drag things back on topic. :P
Putting aside the idea of projected release dates etc. It would still be nice to know what's going on with 1.0, things like what news features are in there and how it's all going.
Short of trawling through Trac it's hard to keep tabs on what's happening in development land. Perhaps some kind of weekly update in the blog that just summarises what's been happening and what areas people can help out in?

It would read like this:

svn broken
we're working on it
we're all busy
goto 10

Not quite *that* bad. I mean, I could say that I successfully sent and received files on AIM today.

<edit> joscar branch, not trunk. Just to make sure I don't get a flood of "I'm using 1.0svn and it doesn't work for meee!" </edit>

Is 1.0 on a different codebase to that of 0.89?

What I am asking is are we seeing the features of 1.0 slowly introduced in 0.X upgrades so that when 1.0 arrives most of the 'new' features will be previously introduced?

Or will 1.0 be a massive update from what ever came before? Is it a new codebase, are features being held until the 1.0 release?

The real answer is somewhat of both.

The "main line" of development is 1.0. The 0.8x series of releases was based on a branch (a "split" of the code). Some features have been merged back into the 0.8x branch, some not. 1.0 has code which is fundamentally different from (and thus incompatible with) the 0.8x series. When possible, merges have generally taken place. However, sometimes (due to large rewrites or reliance on previous, non-merged changes), things just can't be merged. So they are in 1.0.

The less technical answer is basically that 1.0 will have a lot of cool stuff. Currently, the 0.8x tree is only for bug fixes and improvements, so in a sense, features are being "held" for 1.0. However, porting them back to 0.8x isn't a very good use of time or resources.

Hope that clears things up.

Yep!

I was just hoping that 1.0 would be a big difference to what we have know instead of a slow thing so that we would nardly notice the jump.

Theres no 0.90 right? So are we on the last version of Adium until 1.0 :?:

I think we still need to discuss this, but basically no more feature based releases until 1.0 is a good rule of thumb.

Ya know, I was thinking this very same thing yesterday as I was poring through SVN. Go figure.

Yep, I would like a big feature release at 1.0. Makes it more exicting and fun! It may also help get some more publicity for Adium.

I think the word you are looking for is poring - unless you are pouring milk. ;)

(Sorry, compulsive spelling correction. :P)

Who needs 1.0?

Eagerly though I may look forward to any and all feature enhancements in Adium, it's already the baddest thing in or out of the sun. Why so itchy for 1.0? What does it really mean to be 1.0 anyhow?

Maybe I'm just defensive coz I'm turning 30 in a couple months...? :D
