I recently read this entry about controlling buddy icons--I want to do the exact opposite from the poster. How do I set it up so that the icons I choose are displayed? (selecting info and replacing the icon doesn't work for long if the contact already has an icon because it will revert back to that and even if they don't, the icon doesn't show up in the message window)

I used to have Adium set to use Address Book pictures to overwrite buddy's icons. Now I have deselected this preference, and want the buddy's chosen icons to come through, but the Address Book ones remain.

What you're doing is supposed to do what you want it to do. Both of these issues appear to be the same bug... for some reason serverside icons are currently overriding user-specified ones. I'll look into it.
