Yahoo! Messenger connect problem

I can connect fine if I use Yahoo! Messenger, but if I try Adium 0.89, it won't work. It just sits there saying, "Connecting...." It worked up until a few days ago, then mysteriously stopped working.
The only thing I can think of that might be a factor is that I added an ICQ account to my list. But deleting it hasn't helped.

My Yahoo isn't connecting today. Other days it was slow to connect, but it worked. Today it's not going anywhere.

Probably a Yahoo issue as Proteus doesn't connect either.
EDIT: Proteus just connected. Hummmmm.
EDIT 2: Now Adium did too. Odd.

I don't think it's a Yahoo! server issue. Like I said, I can connect fine with Yahoo! Messenger. I just did it again, disconnected, and tried Adium, which still isn't working.

Yahoo messenger is official. Meaning it can always connect. However, Yahoo may cause issues for third party clients like Adium and Proteus. Not sure what your issue is though. as I can connect.
Try deleting your profile in Adium and re-creating it maybe.

Deleted, re-added, still doesn't work.
Your statement that Yahoo! Messenger is "official" and that it can always connect, and that it may cause issues for third parties, only underscores the probability that there is something different or broken about Adium. If both Messenger and Adium followed the same protocol exactly, then the Yahoo! server would not be able to tell the difference between the two and there would be no problem connecting with Adium.
My next possible step could be to completely uninstall Adium and re-install, but that would be a lot of trouble for me to go to and could only affect the symptom, not the cause, at best.
I'm only asking that the Adium developer(s) look into the issue. You seem to be telling me to just mess around with Adium to get it to work again, or to leave it alone and just accept the fact that it's stopped working for me.

To clarify - Yahoo! Messenger's method of connection is indeed official, and Adium's is not the exact same method of connection, nor is it official. Yahoo! knows exactly what does and does not break their client, whereas they don't care about impact on parties that have reverse-engineered their work [which is unsupported, and frowned upon, though not clamped out, obviously], thus server upgrades, protocol changes and whatnot can shut down Adium/Trillian/Gaim/Client X while Yahoo! Messenger runs fine.
Reverse engineering works against a snapshot in time, from the point started, and takes a finite amount of time. By the time a solution is found to the reason the connection no longer 'poses' as a proper messenger to server another could have arisen. The same applies to features. None of the commercial IM networks [barring GTalk/Jabber] have went out of their way to open their protocols for others, especially clients who consolidate services like the above-mentioned.

Are you saying that to shrug off this problem report? The gist of your response seems to be that, "Things break. The world is an imperfect place. The end."
I'm well aware that Adium is not Yahoo! Messenger.
I'm well aware that Yahoo! can, at any time, make a change to their protocol that can cause Adium to fail. I would think that that might require a Yahoo! Messenger upgrade as well, but there is no newer version, so I suspect (and only suspect; I do not claim to know) that it is more likely an Adium issue than a recent change to Yahoo!.
Perhaps that is the case here. Perhaps it isn't. But until you investigate, you won't know.
All I see here is speculation that Yahoo! has changed. It's not backed up by any investigation whatsoever. I don't think that solves anything.
Look, if you don't care to check into it, just say so and I'll shut up and move on.

I understand your frustrated about your issue. Continuing to exacerbate yourself and the situation does no good. You're making generalized assumptions in the heat of a problem, which are also not good. The only things stated in this thread are that things seem a bit odd, it could be a Yahoo problem, and a clarification about the differences in communication. You've expanded it into a complete ignore of your situation, a lack of commitment by the volunteers who work on Adium and contribute in this forum, and you've given it less than 4 hours.
Chill.

I'm not frustrated about the issue. I'm frustrated about the response to my reporting of the issue. And I'm not making any generalized assumptions; I'm making general observations and very specific assumptions. There's a huge difference.
I guess I hoped it would go more like this:
Me: I've noticed a problem and here are my observations.
Adium: Here are some questions about the problem for further clarification, or here is a way to provide more information about the problem for our review, or this is a known problem, or we're looking into it, or we are not looking into the problem because you're a loser and we hate you, etc.
I mean, if you're going to respond, is it too much to ask that you at least give an idea of what might or might not happen next? Otherwise it just looks like you're making a general guess and that you don't intend to look into it furrther.

Have you checked out the
Troubleshooting tips?
Maybe they'll give some good ideas to try.
Oh and I mean no disrespect, but are you using the correct username and password? It happens that we all mistype info at times.
Just trying to help out.
PS. My adium has been taking up words of a few minutes to connect at work lately at times. Not sure why, but maybe let it connect for a bit and see it it ever makes it though.

I tried deleting and then re-adding the account, in case the login and password somehow got messed up and could be corrected in that way, but had no luck.
One of the troubleshooting tips caught my eye: I could create a new user account, which would then supposedly have completely separate settings, and try adding my Yahoo! Messenger account under that user account. Then I wouldn't need to reinstall Adium from scratch necessarily.
FYI, I also use these accounts, which seem to be working just fine: AIM, GTalk, .mac.
Update: my Yahoo! Messenger account just started working again. I can't think of anything I've done that would have affected that. Just out of curiosity, Yahoo! Messenger doesn't show the server(s) it connects to, but Adium shows the single server it connects to and lets you edit that. Is there more than one server, maybe?
