Applescript to mute Adium

Can Adium be muted via applescript?

I am trying to make an applescript to quickly mute Adium and stop Growl without having to go to the preferences of each of them.

I am new to applescript, I looked in the dictionary of Script Editor but didn't see anything to do with audio. I found out how to do the Growl part, all that's left is being able to mute Adium.

I found one that mutes when you're in away mode:

If that's what your looking for. If not, what are you trying to mute it for?

That script mutes the system volume though. I just want to mute Adiums volume like you can in the general preferences.

The use I had in mind was for when I want to show someone something on my Mac (an article, video, etc) but don't want a bunch of message windows/notifications/sounds popping up.

Right now I have to go to both the Growl preferences and the Adium preferences to disable them, I wanted to just have an applescript I click on to automate that process for me.

This is what I have so far - it quits growl and hides Adium, now I just need the mute part if that's possible:

Code: Select all

tell application "GrowlHelperApp" to quit

tell application "System Events" to set visible of process "Adium" to false

You could create an events preset without the sounds, and then try the script in this thread:
