This isn't an option. You'd be wasting time typing regarding this.

I agree with budoink 1000%.
apart from that, just a question to think about, how do "official" clients deal with emoticons from previous versions of the same client?

Like I said, I think it's great that Adium allows users to use their own preferences, it's my preference not to use a South Park set but I respect that some people may want to. I also respect the fact that some people really dislike msn or aol emoticons and I think they should be free to choose alternatives, and since Adium already has this ability I think it would be a shame to remove it.

Plus The_Tick doesn't think they should be discouraged ;-)

smart emoticon switching

Post by flyabusa »

yes I did mention "smart emoticon switching" akin to what GAIMs GUI has.

right now all icons have been DISPLAYING correctly which is good, but having multiple emoticon packs installed when I go to send an emoticon I don't kpw the keystrokes for, I have to click the smiley in the Adium GUI go through a drop down menu select the correct messenge set, then the appropriate icon. Not a HUGE deal. I would just prefer that when chatting in a Yahoo tab to click the smiley and have only the yahoo emoticons (or my user defined yahoo emoticons) come up, when in an MSN tab only have my MSN set icons come up. It doesn't make sense that I'd want to send an MSN only emoticon to a yahoo contact.

I realize this opens up a can of worms for then non-standard custom icons, but ideally What I'd like to see is the drop down menu for selecting icon packs appear ONLY if you have non-standard custom emoticons packs installed that are not meant for a specific messenger. For instance those who want to send and recieve both South Park and default yahoo icons in yahoo could use the drop down menu to do this. Those who wanted to set South Park icons as their default to replace yahoo's icon could do so, and only gt SOuth Park emotics when they click the smiley in the Adium GUI as this user would have set South Park icons to replace yahoo icons. And those who don;t want to download nor use Southpark icons would just download and use a standarized set of yahoo emoticons and they'd be the only ones coming up when clicking the smiley in the GUI
