i was just wondering if there was any way for me to adjust the space between the names of chatters and what they type??? its pretty close and confusing.

This depends on what message style you are using. You can:
a) use a different message style
b) edit the message style u like, though you need to know how to write CSS to do that.
c) get someone to guide you through editing the message style you like (i dont know how myself)
