Reorder contacts in metacontacts?

Post by Gary King »

How do I Reorder contacts in metacontacts? If I merged two contacts, how do I change their order? Or, if I want, how can I message a certain contact in a metacontact?

1) Not available when the two merged accounts are on two different of my MSN accounts.

2) Don't want to have to do this; would rather change it once.

Do what? Can you rephrase this?

You should only have to do this once.

There is no drawer that contains the contacts in a metacontact; each contact in my metacontact are on a different one of my MSN account's list.

That still doesn't make any sense to me. When you click Get Info on the metacontact, what do you see?

I think he's seeing this, but with no context to show if there is a drawer or not (and the blurring is evil), it's kinda hard to tell anything:

Oh, so you think he's talking about a single contact present on multiple accounts. I see - that fits.

And the request is to specify the default ordering of accounts.

The answer, then: Drag the accounts to the order you want in the Accounts preferences.

Yeah, I guess that's the only option that I have.

But see, this is my situation:

I have 2 MSN accounts. Each one for a different function (say, one for personal, one for business.) And so, I'd have to manually change the "From:" to the business one if I'm sending a message to a 'business' contact and my default is personal account.

But, not a big deal, but maybe should be a feature?

Maybe what should be a feature?

Gary, you need to start giving us more information in these requests

On the accounts page, I should be able to reorder the contacts/accounts.

In the get info -> accounts tab can you choose a group to put the contact in beside your account name? Does this seperate the contact?

Please be very verbose.

When in the accounts preferences, and can you give a step by step of what you are expecting. I'm not trying to be difficult, but what you are relaying isn't really too clear to me.

"Accounts pane of the Get Info window" and "Accounts preferences" are being confused here, I believe.

Gary, once you select an account once for the contact that selection will be respected in future interactions with the contact. The default account for a service is determined by the ordering you specify globally by drag&drop in the Accounts preferences.
