I merged two contacts from different of my MSN accounts, and they cannot be separated. Yes, I checked Get Info.

Select the contact in the contact list and Get Info on the contact. There should be a drawer that comes out of the side of the Get Info window. Under the list of email addresses for this contact is a minus sign which removes contacts from the meta contact. This doesnt delete the contact, just makes it its own contact.

As I said, no drawer in Get Info.

I merged two contacts. Isn't that considered a metacontact?
No drawer.

I had a similar problem once. I closed the drawer by dragging it to the edge of the window and couldn't figure out how to get it back

I didn't even close it. It was just like that.

Are you sure your not mixing a metacontact up with the same contact on two of your accounts?

I had two contacts; same person, but in two of my MSN accounts. I place one on top of the other, Adium asks me if I want to merge them, so I do.

OK, that sounds like a metacontact. But because its the same address on two of your accounts theres no need to show the draw. I don't really know what to do in this case, sorry. You might want to muck around with the accounts tab in Get info and see if you can get the contact to be in different groups for different accounts.

I've already mucked around for quite a while, and from what I can conclude, it is a bug.

Okay, but it's still a bug. I've filed it:

of course. just offering a temporary fix until the developers implement a long term.

maybe its a metacontact because you have both contacts in the same addressbook entry (in the program adressbook).
try to deactivate this option in the advanced->adressbook settings of the adium preferences.
I'm using the german version, so it could be that I didn't (re-)translate it correct...

We're talking about 2 accounts, 1 contact. That is, Bob has 2 AIM accounts, Bob1 and Bob2. He adds Jane to the contact lists of both. "Jane" is the contact in question.
There is no drawer because only one contact is involved. How can you separate a single contact? It's like splitting an atom...
Perhaps, though: Are you trying to put the contact on Bob1 into Group1 and Bob2 into Group2?

They were previously two separate contacts before I merged them, though, so technically, I'd like to undo what I've done.
Basically, what I really want to do is to reorder the contacts in the meta.
