Hi, i stopped using Adium somewhere around the .57 release because of a mysterious bug that wiped icq contacts. And as much as i loved Adium i couldn't endure the pain of requesting authoraization from all my icq buddies again. so here i am back again wondering if there's any reports of this bug in the recent release... (don't shoot me! i did do a search first! Even on the version history!) i also realised adium used to reside within the funmac forums... so maybe that's the reason all the old threads got wiped... (5th thread down... http://www.google.com/search?q=adium+wi ... 8&oe=UTF-8)
Anyways I've downloaded the most recent client, and i'm eagerly waiting for the all clear from you folks before I launch it!
ICQ delete bug still around?
Re: ICQ delete bug still around?
There have been two separate issues that have caused loss of contacts in the past:
1) Changing the user icon after an oscar account had requested your server-side data but before the server-side data had been received.
Since user-icon is stored in the server side data along with the contact list and a few other settings, changing the user icon invokes a server-side save in libgaim. If this server-side save occurred in that critical window, libgaim would wipe the server-side list by saving an empty list to the server-side data. Often this would happen midway through the list update and only wipe a group or two from the list.
2) Unauthorized ICQ contacts on the server-side list.
Old version of Adium (and possibly other clients) placed ICQ contacts on the server-side list with incorrect authorization. These contacts were incorrect, and removed from the contact list by libgaim.
#2 wasn't an issue with the new client, but the old client. Unfortunately it masked issue #1, and when combined with the rarity of issue #1 due to the extreme timing required to pull off the icon update during the ssi request made the bug difficult to track. However, to my knowledge issue #1 has been fixed and #2 most likely remains but at this point the incorrect servers-side lists have been corrected.
That said, please keep in mind that you use Adium at your own risk and it is your responsibility to back up any data that you feel is important.
