sign on to AIM, adium crashes!

Post by geekroick »

folks..

this is a pretty serious problem. since this morning (about an hour ago) i've tried to sign on to AIM. as soon as i do so, within about 3 or 4 seconds, adium quits on me.

i've renamed the prefs folder and trashed the prefs in library > preferences, and i'm on the latest adium build. (i also had the same problem in the last build, which wasn't solved upon upgrading).

for what it's worth, MSN seems to work fine, it's just AIM that's totally screwed. any ideas?

i also just submitted a crash report for this.

thanks :)

I'm getting the exact same problem. If anyone knows how to fix it please share how.

Please post here the email address under which you have submitted crash reports or, if you prefer, email it to us along with a reference to this thread at bugs@adiumx.com, so we can look up the crash reports specifically. Thanks :)

Seeing similar crash

Post by adampennin »

I'm seeing a similar crash today (after switching to .96), although my gdb backtrace indicates that it is actually dying on receipt of a zephyr. It is able to recieve several messages, but dies about 20 seconds after starting fairly consistantly.

I set my Adium setting to only sign on to one of my AIM accounts and after doing that, It did not crash (at least it hasn't yet). I hope this clue helps find out something.

Odd... zephyr code hasn't changed recently, and you're right, that's a new one. Can you get a line or function within handle_message() on which it's crashing? I'm not very familiar with gaim's zephyr code, but I don't see any blatant code problems right now...

me at markeverclear dot com.

..and to add more mystery to this crash, i just signed on after leaving my comp on all day while i was at work, and now all seems to be working. i tried about 6 or 7 times this morning and got the above problem i described, each time.. i only sent the one crash report though. still, it'd be nice to find out what's going on!

I've had this problem for over a week now. Bot being nearly as smart as most of you on this board I can't even begin to think of an idea of what is going wrong. I have the same problem with .73-.76. Any help to the situation would be greatly appreciated.

You and Joffroi have the same crash, and I can't reproduce it locally.. but I have a hunch where it might be. The reason you can't reproduce it now is that it's related to an away message one of the contacts on your list has... someone out there is sending us invalid HTML, and instead of just gobbling it up Adium is crashing as a result of fixing another issue recently. Cute, eh? :) It should be fixed for the next version.

sea102883: Your email please so I can verify it's the same issue?

I think I might have the same issue...

I've been having alot of trouble with Adium just crashing at boot....I suspect it might be the same issue.

I used my AIM ID, kelson5069 when submitting a number of crash reports....

Can you confirm if it is the same issue?

Thanks!

Interesting. You've got a corrupt emoticon pack installed. What non-built-in packs are you using?

You've got a different issue, though it is under active investigation. It's a new crash (as of 0.75, I believe) when signing in to Sametime under certain circumstances. If you could email me at evan@adiumx.com I'd like you to try a couple things to see if we can further narrow down what's going on. Thanks :)

evands: I am using the following packs: MSN animated, IPB, iChat, Spymac, & AdiuMSN. There might be one more, but I don't remember. I'm going to guess that it's the Spymac since I had downloaded that one the day I started to have problems. Thanks for figuring out what it is, now only to fix it so I can back to the happy messaging land that is Adium.

Glad to hear it :)

Are they still in your trash can? If so, I'd like to figure out which one has the problem so we can avoid someone else hitting the same problem.

I've been having very frequent crashes logging in to Sametime for a few weeks now: frequent as in 90% of the time. I've installed .77 and am still having the same crashes. I've been submitting under my AIM ID heath3115. If there is anything I can do to help track this down please let me know.

You're not alone... we're working on a fix but have just been mystified as to the source of the crash thus far.

A couple things which may help (please let us know what your results are when you try):
- Deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default User/libgaim/blist.xml [this may only work for the next launch... would be interested to hear results]
- Logging in with the official Sametime client. That sounds strange, but at least one user said that after logging in with an official client everything was okay
- Downgrading to a version .74 or earlier (.75 may work, mixed results there).

I'm hoping to have a debug test build sometime this week which may help, as well... I'll let you know.

- Tried logging in with the Sametime Windows client. Next Adium launch was fine, but quit and restart there is a crash. If I launch the Windows client in between, no crash.
- Deleting the blist.xml had no effect.
- Haven't tried downgrading, but the crash definitely only started fairly recently so I'm sure one of them will get rid of it. If it will help you track the problem let me know and I'll narrow it down.
