Welcome to the Forums!

You cannot set an animated icon inside Adium. However, if you set an animated icon with AIM's client Adium will respect that.

HTH.

Just a little correction

Adium does not respect buddy icons put up on other clients. You can trick it into doing it for a while if you do it in the official aim client and then switch to Adium , but it will change in a few days.

Does it work in Address Book? Like setting the buddy icon in Address book "me" card and them opening Adium?

To the best of my knowledge, address book doesn't have (good) support for animated .gif's. The only reason i quallify that statement with "good" is that i think once when i set an animated gif as my icon in addressbook, i did see some hints that the image was stored properly but just never animated when displayed.

I did the following: ensure that adium has no user icon set for your account (this may involve deleting picture from address book and turning off address book integration). Set the animated pic in AIM (w/out adium running). Start up adium.

Whether all of that was necessary and whether it will last has yet to be seen.

It would be nice if animated .gif support was improved for adium.

We know. It's been requested plenty, and thought about by several people on the team. However, this means 1 of 2 things: 1 - we remove support for the current Image Picker and people only set it by file, 2 - we remove support for Apple's Image Picker and completely rewrite it and all its functionality, adding support for transparency and animation.

1 severely limits functionality and 2 requires a large amount of time invested in it. Will it happen at some point, most likely. Anytime soon, not likely.

Right now I would be happy with just a check box or something that would make Adium not change your buddy icon if you don't want it to. BTW, does anyone know a good way to get an animated buddy icon rigged up? Thanks :!:
