Manually editing profile file (or: inserting html chars)

Post by mageman160 »

I chat with mostly windows people, so if i try any special characters, such as the heart (&heart; in html webpages, unicode 2665) they come out funny.

So: is there any way for me to bypass special character filtering and modifying so i can just put in &heart;?

Any help is much appreciated

I do not think you are doing this right.

Have you tried copying/pasting the BLACK HEART SUIT character into the field? What you are attempting is not valid.

What im doing, step by step...

Ok, heres what I'm doing:

1. Open preferences (apple + , )

2. Go to accounts, select an aim, press edit

3. click the personal tab.

4. Open the character palette. Find the heart (misc. symbols).

5. Pull down the 'font variation' arrow. Select the heart in a font that should be on a windows computer.

6. Press 'insert with font'

7. Close. ask a friend what it looks like. Not right...

I've also tried copying off the web, which doesn't work either. The problem is not that im inserting it wrong- they're fine on my machine - but that it is incompatible with windows aim. Windows shows them as funny curly 'E's

Also, windows people have ? instead of hearts show up (and if anyone here is on windows, i bet thats a heart huh?) or more bizarrely... © <- that

sorry if my first message was a bit ambiguous.
