I had this happen where my friend was listed as offline (he's on Windows MSN), but he was actually online. But he said that other people (also Windows users) saw him as offline as well, so it might not be Adium's problem.

Yeah same story as da_baum for me too. had a few friends who claim to be online though everyone sees them as offline. I guess you should just take advantage of it while you can 8-)

Now that I think about it, I also appeared as offline to one of my friends yesterday as well. Perhaps this is why no one talks to me on MSN?

Yeah, this problem exists with old versions of MSN for Windows too

I've noticed that too... I think the CAL message sent to verify whenever a contact is available or not is the problem.
Sometimes the MSN Server responds with an error code stating the contact is offline even if it is not.

It never happened to me, but a friend of mine had this issue and I have a similar one with the CVS, but that's another story.

Interestingly, I've experienced associated problems.

A contact went offline, but could still send and receive messages. This has happened more frequently in the last week.

I'm using the SVN copy, but I doubt that it is a fault with the application, as the problem has only presented itself recently; I have not updated my copy of Adium for quite a while.

Further to this, similar bugs have been seen by my brother on aMSN.

I'm pretty sure Windows Live Messenger supports sending messages while invisible, so I'm not sure other people talking to you when they appear to be offline is a bug as such.
