I'm using 9717, and I'm not having either of those issues. In fact, looking in the preferences, I found an option for turning off contact list tooltips while Adium is in the background-- solving my longest standing pet peeve bug
! Hurray
!
Thanks devs
!
It does seem to have bug with Yahoo though-- if I'm signed into Yahoo with another client, it crashes on startup, around the time it should be logging in. My uneducated guess is that the error message is getting routed into the wrong place because of the status rewrite.

so can someone recommend what i should do? i sitll can't open my preferences window when using .8. i've tried trashing everything releated to adium is there a hidden file that i should be trashing as well? i've rebuilt and trashed the previous adium plist and repaired permissiona and sitll can't get the preferences open in the latest svn. i tried rolling back to the last 'stable' svn that i tried and still can't open prefs.

I'm running 9717 and can't do either... weird

That is weird. I'm also running 9717 and I haven't encountered any problems yet, except the few minor bugs that were there in previous builds.

Opening preferences will (for the most part) crash Adium if your last viewed prefpane was the messages pane. It has something to do with message view variants... I've been wrestling with it all morning.

Yeah, I've noticed the problems with the message view variants since I started using SVN about a week ago.

Sounds like a fascinating morning...
All hard work is appreciated

Well, I am glad to know at last that someone has the same problem. I have been struggling with this "crash" for at least three days now. I played around with the contact list view (actually installed one from Xtras site and changed the view in .8) then it started to crash at launch or whenever I open the preference and change the contact list view (after deleting the Adium 2.0 folder in my /user/library/application support).
It appears that my Yahoo Japan account connects (and maybe MSN), but as soon as AIM accounts gets online, it crashes. For some reason my crash reporter is not working so I am posting this just for an info.
Thanks.

P.S.
when I boot up .77 it works fine.

So would deleting the com.adium*.* things make it forget which pane was open?

I've noticed that the SVN sets the Away Message to "Not Available" after a while

I've noticed that the 0.8 svn builds I've used (since this weekend) have me go "Idle" after 10 minutes, and I can't find the place to turn this off. It worked/works fine in the 0.7x releases. Any ideas?

Hmm, I don't see that either. In fact, I don't see any idle options at all, such as go idle or set custom idle. Perhaps idle controls have yet to be added into the status system.

manual idle controls seem to be part of Custom Status now. (the idle after X minutes pref seems to be gone) I do miss being able to control my idle independently of the rest of my status (as well as being able to easily mute/un-mute and enable/disable growl while away on the fly)

I had this issue too - I took a look in console.log and found the following:
2005-02-22 22:24:38.844 Adium[26386] -[AIPreferenceWindowController loadWindow]: failed to load window nib file 'PreferenceWindow'.
So I figured that PreferenceWindow.nib was somehow missing from the built Adium app.
The following fixed the issue:
sudo cp -R ~/dev/adium/Resources/PreferenceWindow.nib /Applications/3rd party apps/Adium.app/Contents/Resources
where "~/dev/adium" is my Adium SVN path, and "/Applications/3rd party apps" is the directory to which I copied the built application.
Restarted Adium, command-comma, and up come the prefs..

Ah, so I can set idle by having an available message with no text, and say "immediately idle". That solves one problem, but doesn't address the inability to control when idle is automatically turned on, if at all.

Hopefully it'll be added to the privacy section of the accounts list soon, but it doesn't look like it has been implemented yet.

Heya, glad to see you here

Could you email me the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Adium.crash.log file after crashing it?

I just played around with the latest SVN build, mainly to check out the new status system. I noticed that, if you set a "Free for Chat" status message with a script, like the currently playing track in iTunes, it doesn't update when the song changes. Also, the "/music" command doesn't parse correctly.
Is live updating of the status message planned for the 0.8 tag?
