Is there any possible way ...

Post by renaudparisfrance »

... to be able to traceroute the users to which we are connected.

I mean, when you are connected to someone, to be sure that's the correct person you are talking to ..
The person says he is in australia, and when you traceroute you see that he is in island.

It could be a service or a little window, with the country localization, as in azureus, or another service.
I don't remember where, it's even possible to check what isp you are connected to.

Thanks

renaud

ps:
I mean that, without having to use terminal to traceroute or to filters the packets in a shell.
Or at least , is there any easy way for you to have in the histiry or somewhere the ip of the people we are connected to ?

I have no idea, really; I slightly doubt it's possible if the chat is being relayed over a server, but if you were to direct connect, maybe there's a way...

p.s. this is totally legal, by the way.

the only way this could be done is with direct conecctions. In that case adium should could know the localization tracing the Ip of your buddy.....
I think this will be usefull, but -for know- is not very practicual couse direct connect is only supported for AIM, AFAIK.

It's not in, and it's not something we're interested in implementing. That said, it's also not possible.

Sure, it's not possible for a feature like that in Adium.

But it doesn't mean that you can go around it, with direct connect, and some sniffer. Then just find the right IP, and then do a traceroute.

But, sure, I agree. This feature would also be pointless to have in a IM app.

And direct connect is in exactly how many protocols? And how many protocols does Adium support?

We do support protocol specific features, you know (see the submenus off an account). Anyway, everyone's agreed it's a poor feature to implement.
