Spontaneous Crash

I was chatting with some buddies and Adium crashed, i thought "No biggie, I'm sure this happens often..." I filled out the crash form for the Adium Crash Reporter program.
I try to get on, but it crashes as soon as it opens. Aw, I thought, just use iChat and get on tommorrow. This was approximately a week ago... I can't fix it yet. Aggh! Someone help!

What email are you using for the crash reports? (We just need part of the email to look them up, if you'd rather not post the full address

)

Perhaps this should be moved to the Adium Bugs section. I find that deleting some prefs files works well to fix the problem.

Yea, I did that. Not working... Then I got rid of a couple scripts that may be the source of the problem.

Still not working.
A general tip for Mac users: delete the prefs and that should fix the problem. It's basically a no-brainer.

Here's the e-mail that I used... NO ONE IS TO USE IT!

Same thing happened to me, I sent an email from j.tate, and deleted all old prefs, the program, the plugins and tried to just start off with a fresh prog, but it keeps crashing. Any advice pleassee?

snarfer2007: What version of OS X are you running?
iloveipr: When you say "edited the smiley preferences" in your crash report, what precisely do you mean?

snarfer2007: Could you submit a few more crash reports? The only one we have on file is relatively useless unfortunately; I'm hoping others might shed some light on your crash. Let us know here when you have had a chance to do so.

Sorry man, but no can do. It's always the same thing, I just can't get Adium to open. Well, it does, but it crashes as soon as it finishes bouncing in the dock and loading. There is no way for it to crash normally. Aggh!
Crashing At Startup

I'm getting the same thing, and have been for weeks. Any new ideas out there. I've trashed prefs, but can someone list all the files that might be deleted? I've even created whole new Identities, to no avail. I LOVE Adium, but it's not working. I tried putting up Proteus, and get the same crash, so I'm wondering if they're both based on similar stuff. Maybe gaim? I'm not real savvy on the underpinnings of it all. I'll post some crash reports from
roblef@gmail.com.

Hm. Did you recently upgrade Quicktime? Or do you have anything unusual/exciting in your Internet Plugins folder (either in /Library/Internet Plugins, /System/Library/Internet Plugins, or ~/Library/Internet Plugins)?

I've got Quicktime 6.5.2, and nothing that exciting in those dirs. Here's a list:
AuthorwareWebPlayer
AuthorwareWebPlayer-PPC folder
DRM Plugin.bundle
Flash Player.plugin
flashplayer.xpt
Installer Log File
Java Applet Plugin Enabler
Java Applet.plugin
JavaPluginCocoa.bundle
NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave
nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt
QuickTime Plugin.plugin
RealPlayer Plugin
RealPlayer Plugin.xpt
Windows Media Plugin
Any of those look exotic or exciting? Thanks!

Hard to say... unfortunately your system is producing well-nigh-useless crash logs
If you get a chance, could you try removing the Quicktime plugin (just move it to another folder temporarily or whatever) and see if Adium still crashes for you?

You got it. I'll do that now...
Nope. still crashes. It crashed this time on an incoming message.
How can I make the crash reports more meaningful?

You and a small number of people seem to have crashes like this... and I honestly have absolutely no idea why. Does Safari work okay for you?

I wish I knew. This is one of those frustrating problems that I honestly don't even know where to start... I'll try to do some research into why some systems have crash symbols and some just have gibberish (like yours, no fault of yours I'm sure!) over winter break.

Long shoot: Any of you using Unsanity's Haxies or development versions of Safari? Even Tiger maybe?

Another guess: Do you NOT have the Xcode developer tools installed?

Yep, Safari works pretty well. Though I have been using Firefox more often lately. Thanks for all the efforts!

Yes I have Xcode on my compy, but eevyl, I used to have ShapeShifter, but now I don't.
Still with the accursed monkeys! It refuses to work!
EDIT: My system administrator has restricted my chatting access, so I need that help ASAP!

I'm also getting those crashes. I use Shapeshifter. It happens when I'm trying to change the look of the buddy list usually. It also crashed when I was trying to read somebody's AIM profile.
