Adium, AOL Beta software, and mail.app

Okay, AOL has a new beta out for Mac users to use mail.app to send and receive AOL mail.
You have to download a programme that changes all the settings for you.
Okay, fine and dandy, it should only change mail.app's settings and iChat's right?
Not.
Now Adium insists on displaying my full name in AIM messages instead of my nick name. I've checked the prefs and the "alias" for AIM is empty. If I change the AIM alias that shows up instead but if I empty it my full name pops up again.
And until I restarted my computer after doing this I couldn't message anyone.
If this programme configures mail and iChat to work with my AOL name and use my full name why would any of that jump over to Adium?
Second, I haven't had this problem until after doing this AOL thing, but now MSN won't connect. It tells me "my email address (MSN) Gaim error: connection error from notification server (messenger.hotmail.com): writing error"
Any ideas?
