Will 0.89.1 (log) files be easily transferrable to 1.0f?

Postby Dex4788 » Tue Aug 01, 2006 6:39 am

I just recently switched to a mac, and I'm looking forward to install Adium as my new source for my im'ing needs. When I was on windows, I'd keep all my log files (convos). Since I'm starting a new name on this mac, I'd like to do the same as well. But, I've read that once 1.0 (final) is released, it will be radically different from previous versions. Will this have any effect if I install 0.89.1 now? Because if it won't be easy to transfer the log files, I'd rather just wait.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's a completely automatic process that happens the first time you launch 1.0.

Thanks for the reply.

This is 100% sure though, I'm assuming from your choice of words?

Yes this is 100% certain. I'm viewing my old log files with Adium 1.0 beta now :)

To be more specific, the old log reading code is left completely intact in 1.0, so the only "conversion" that happens is a file renaming. Only new logs use the new cross-client XML format.

^^ Oh ok, cool. So i guess that really doesn't matter at all since they will all be viewable under the same window.

Also, any idea when 1.0 final releases? Like a time frame?

The developers don't give ETAs. 1.0 final will be out "when it's ready."

If you want you can easily get the betas from http://beta.adium.com

Just backup ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0 first and perhaps keep 0.89.1 around.

this seems like a good thread to add my question to:

I just got back on a Mac after several weeks absence, but I made the move from an iBook G4 to a MacBook. I didn't transfer all my files straight (long story) but I have backups. I went to manually (just dragging and dropping) add my old log files to the correct Adium folder within Application support and discovered the different extension for logs in the Adium 1.0 beta 7. Since I've already started using it, is there anyway to add my old logs (which are in .html)? Or do I need to uninstall the 1.0 beta, install ver .89 and go from there?

Renaming them from .html to .AdiumHTMLLog should work fine.
