You can easily disable the audio and video actions in QS Preferences -> Actions -> IM Accounts, just uncheck the boxes next to them.

Yes, but if you do that, if you switch to using iChat as the Instant Messaging handler, won't you have to re-enable the actions if you wish to use them?

Actually at some point I'd prefer if the basic IM actions could use the handler and hence Adium if selected. But the audio and video chat actions could always use iChat (or perhaps a new handler) so I could use them as well.

This doesn't seem to be working for me. It is all installed however I don't seem to be able to see any contacts in QS. If I type adium in first pane and right arrow as it suggest I don't see any contacts, and if I try and right some text and send to account I can't see or choose any contacts.

I'm on a iBook G4 running 10.4.8 and beta 17.

It might help me diagnose the situation if you could share the detailed steps which you performed to set things up.

Sure, as far as I remember I did this.

Downloaded plugin.
Double clicked plugin and it installed without asking me any questions.
Quit Adium.
Quit QS.
Backed up Adium 2.0 file.
Restarted QS.
Launched Adium.

and then,

Selected Adium in QS.
Right arrowed.
got nothing.

then,

typed text in QS.
IM to account....
nothing shows in 3rd pane.

Not sure I understand this part. What does "backed up" mean? What does "Adium 2.0 file" refer to?

I didn't notice anything in the steps mentioned about the value of "Instant Messaging" in the QS Handlers pref pane -- this should be "Adium". Was this ensured/modified appropriately?

Also, is there now a symbolic link at ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/PlugIns/Quicksilver.AdiumPlugin?

What's with the MetaContact-34's and such when there's no away message?

I don't really know what you are referring to.

It happens for some people, it say MetaContact - ##

Ah, definitely easier to understand what you are referring to now.

I suspect it has something to do w/ what's described at:

http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/CombiningContacts

As for why the plug-in is written to behave this way, I don't really know as I'm not the original author. I'll see if I can track down where in the source this is to try to get a better understanding.

Ha that was it! I forgot I had reinstalled everything on my laptop, previously I had tried the build for .89 of Adium and so Adium was set, obviously I hadn't changed it when I reinstalled!

By backing up the Adium 2.0 folder, I just made a copy of it. This is the folder all my Adium preferences etc are kept in, so if the plugin broke Adium and I had to reinstall I had it all backed up.

Unfortunately, there is a QS-related problem with the "Instant Messaging" setting accessible via the QS Handlers pref pane [1]. The work-around chosen is to have the Adium Module install the iChat plug-in -- but unfortunately this means that the handler setting may need to be modified whatever the value was before.

Please note that the plug-in docs mention specifically:
After the plug-in is installed, ensure the value of the "Instant Messaging" pop-up in the Handlers window of Quicksilver's preferences window is set to "Adium".
;-)

Anyway, it is good to hear that the plug-in is more or less functioning for your set up :-)

[1] This problem was one of the main reasons it took me a while to make the preliminary release available -- I did not manage to find a way to "fix" the issue. My current understanding is that QS itself would need to be modified -- but I am not in a position to do that (and AFAIK anything w/in the QS app itself is not likely to change any time soon).

O, now that i managed to have this plugin working with the adium beta i must say thank you for your work.
Do you still develop it? it is hard to know cause
http://quicksilver.infogami.com/ObjectiveCPlugins
doesnt give a lot of informations.

yet there is something i dont manage to do and may be someone here can help me.
To IM an online adium contact, you have to :
1)open quicksilver
2)write adium
3)right cursor
4)right cursor again to enter online contacts
5)type the name of the contact

I would like to create a trigger to go directly to 5) but i cant manage to do it.
I cant manage to create a trigger to open quicksilver directly in online contacts where typing will search for online contacts and tab will give you actions like IM.

In the trigger when i choose online contact i have to choose an action and none of them allow me to do what i want.

Anyone knows if what i want is doable?

Thanks

I still look after it -- though I may have much less capability to do so for a month or so starting in a week or two.

It may not be possible with the current version.

My current thoughts are to consider modifications to the plug-in after Adium 1.0 is released. I don't really want to mess with things until/after that point -- if something changes in Adium before the 1.0 release, I don't know how much effort will be required to ensure the plug-in continues to function -- if I start extending/modifying the plug-in now in various ways, I am concerned it may interfere w/ the process of providing a version of the plug-in that works w/ Adium 1.0.

If your contacts are sync'ed with Address Book and you have the Address Book plugin installed, you can just:
1. activate quicksilver
2. type the name of a contact until it appears
3. tab to the action pane
4. IM

It's not just limited to a list of online contacts, but if there's a particular contact you want, it's pretty fast.

The way to do what you're asking I think would be to define the trigger as right arrowing into Adium in the first pane to Online Contacts and then using the Show Contents action. (I do this for the Clipboard History.) The problem is it doesn't work in this case I think because the Online Contacts list is built dynamically and saving such things as triggers seems to be problematic.

I understand that very well, i think it is wise to wait for a 1.0 release.
Thanks for your quick response and your work

1.0 is feature frozen and is very close to a RC version, not to much should change by the final release (mostly bug fixes).
BTW, you are doing a great job here!

I have the plugin but my contacts may not be well sync'ed. Do you know a good program to sync both?
