New iChat - any thoughts?

Post by jl24 »

I've just looked at the new iChat for Leopard preview, and it looks like Adium has given Apple a few ideas and they've implemented them. What does everyone think of iChat 3.0?

Well atleast for the UI.

And iChat needed a UI overhaul.
But a screen sharing feature for Adium would be nice ;-P

Anyway, Adium will always be the best client for me anyway.
The only thing that would make me turn my head on Adium and go over to iChat would be if they had implemented MSN support with Video. But hey, they didn't. SO screw them :)

Screen sharing looks awesome, although I have to wonder about possible security implications.

Showing slideshows and keynote presentations is a nice idea as well.

bye bye brushed metal...

It looks like they adopted the unified look for iChat...not polished metal that Andrew and myself had bet on...

Some of the features do look really sweet. I only wish that more of my friends owned Macs so I could take advantage of some of them. The only thing stopping me using iChat is the fact that I can't use MSN on it ( I mean out the box without faffing around with Jabber!).

The video stuff in particular looks pretty fantastic. I'm looking forward to what under-the-hood improvements they'll be making to the system that'll translate to Adium, as well...

Apple's definitely taken note of some Adium strengths, and that's only a good thing :)

Beautifully polished, truly next generation computing.

I won't be using it myself because I don't do webcams screen sharing or any of the other cool stuff on offer.

But it seems Apple have made it much more tempting than MSN is, perhaps ion retaliation to those silly articles a few months back about kids selling their macs because of MSN.

Or assure your mom you're in your student dorm room, while in reality you're taking a trip to the bahamas.

I told my mom she's now getting a Mac... I can already see how the screen sharing option can be useful for her and myself. The background effects are cool too.

Well, obviously I'll be using Adium over iChat in large part for its customization, but iChat looks so much better in Leopard than it is on Tiger, and it can actually prove useful with certain tasks.

And yes, I definitely plan on using the screen sharing on occasion :)

when it says multiple accounts do you think that means in the same window, will jabber be in the same window as AIM. So many answered questions

iChat is great and all, but, well no one uses it that I know....so all its neat things are useless. Now, if they implemented full msn support it would be something else entirely

Now, if they implemented full MSN support, would that include Yahoo now?
