Adium crashes constantly

This never used to happen to me before on my iMac G5, but since that died I bought myself a MacPro. For the first few days Adium was fine, then I installed Metal Adium because it looks a lot better, but then that crashed all the time yesterday, after one full day of working fine. I trashed it, and re-installed. Same thing. Trashed again, installed 'proper' Adium, no luck, that crashed too.
If it's to do with Intel, then it's stupid because I can run Photoshop under Rosetta fine.
Any Ideas? Thanks
-Van

Did you submit any crash reports? IF so what email address did you enter them under?
Have you tried the steps here:
http://forums.cocoaforge.com/viewtopic.php?t=7 (I'm thinking of step 3)
Also
when does it crash? On launch, receiving a message, opening a chat etc

I didn't submit crash reports becuase,
1) I was doing nothing, just talking and it would crash
2) It was metal adium...
Well, I installed the latest beta version, b11 i think it is. And that's working like a charm so far
Thanks anyway,

I would recommend posting this on the beta forum, since it is related to the beta version.
Usually when a program crashes useful info includes:
- OS version
- program version
- any modifcations, such as skins or plugins
- what activity you were doing. in your case if you weren't chatting indicating active accounts (Yahoo, Jabber, etc), might help.

I keep getting the exact same problem, I tried using a new email account and that worked, but when i signed out it wouldn't let me back on. It just crashes instantly when i sign in.

There seems to be a really persistent crash with MSN in 0.89, so if you have an MSN account, the beta probably fixes it.
Please help!!!

I'm using a 2x2ghz 15" MBP, and adium crashes constantly! I noticed this behavior immediately after installing the latest security update from Apple.
I've tried everything short of reinstalling OS X to fix this issue, including resetting the pram, new preferences, beta versions.
I'm quite annoyed, as Adium is normally open any time my mac is on!
My crash reports are submitted with my AIM acct (bmfivek) and my email
byron.bowerman+adium@gmail.com.

Your crash reports, no fault of yours, don't have a useful traceback to the problem. Please try out the current Adium Beta -
http://beta.adiumx.com - and let us know if the problem continues. If it does, we'll be better able to hunt it down using that version.

I've downloaded and installed the latest beta (as of around 3am this morning) with no change. I'll run adium a few more times, to try and generate useful crash data.
I posted log info on the trac ticket today, as well.
FWIW I've had no problem with Adium (0.89.1) on my iMac G5 (OS X 10.4.7).

1) Launch Adium 1.0 holding down shift
2) If it does not crash, sign on accounts one at a time. Wait 1 minute per account.
Note: If you have multiple accounts on the same service, please sign them on sequentially. i.e. if you have 3 msn accounts sign all of them on first.
3) If it doesn't crash for any accounts, restart adium by not holding down shift.
If it does crash by doing 2, please let us know which account or what happened directly prior to the crash.

Ok. Adium is open. I deleted my prefs, only running with my AIM acct. Signed in with no crash
The_Tick wrote:2) If it does not crash, sign on accounts one at a time. Wait 1 minute per account.
As I mentioned above, I'm only trying one acct right now.

I'm not sure if I was unclear earlier, but Adium only crashes when a msg window opens. I've been able to open Adium and sign in all my accts with no issues. The crash occurs immediately on receipt of a message, or when I double-click a contact to open a msg window to initiate a message. If I don't send/recieve any messages, Adium appears stable, and will remain open until a message comes in.
And, I'm not trying to be rude at all. I'm just highly frustrated! Thanks for your help!

Sorry, I missed that bit.
Let's try using the Xtras manager and remove all the message styles you have.

I removed my entire App Support folder earlier, all these are already toast. I did check, just to make sure none of them were installed.

This seems to have fixed everything! Thank you!!!

Great
The underlying problem (which seems to only affect some systems even with the same settings) should be fixed in Adium 1.1, when the Summer of Code Accessibility project is merged into the main Adium code.
