2 Requests

I searched and was unable to find either of the following requests (or a solution that may already exist), but that could just mean that I'm not very good at searching. :-\
1.) The ability to change your away message without first removing your current away message. Often times I just need to change my away message from "Shower" to "Class," being a compulsive college student, and this feature would be very helpful.
2.) Support for animated buddy icons. Often times, when I get a .gif file off of a website (for some little marhmallow man plummeting to his doom or something equally ridiculous), the buddy icon gets destroyed in the click-and-drag process to the square in the "Adium -> Preferences -> Account" window.

1) Hold down option while in the File menu. Voila!
2) You can't SET an animated icon in Adium (it's a limitation of the Apple Image Picker, alas), but you CAN see them.

That's why iChat is like that… and you can't see animations in iChat either!

Thanks for the first one! As a re-request, it would be nice if that same trick worked for the menu you get when you ctrl+click the Adium icon in the dock. That's how I change my away message almost all the time.
As for the 2nd one, I have no idea what the Apple Image Picker is, but it sure is a shame... animated icons are definitely the way to go.

The Apple Image Picker is what iChat uses, and also Address Book.
It also can't set transparent buddy icons.

Ahhh.. do you think Adium will ever support animated buddy icons? I assume it will have to use something other than the Apple Image Picker, but I'm guessing that's a lot of trouble.

Good guess! You earn 10 billyboogerhoggins for use with freakman's Vending Machine!

Hmm, I thought that it already worked, but I check it out, and you're right. Was there an old version that made the away message menu come up in the dock while holding option?
Anyhow, the whole status system is in for an overhaul, so be patient.

The dock doesn't support "alternate" menu items (that is, menu items which change if you press option) prior to OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

I wonder why I thought it did.

Because the ones that are available for all applications (quit -> force quit, hide -> hide others) do change.

So that means when 10.4 comes out this option might become available in Adium?

Speaking of which, has anyone noticed a (minor) glitch with this? If my mouse is already over the "Remove Away Message" menu item when I press option, the new submenu appears farther down than it should.
Or am I just missing something? (A quick search of the Bugs forum didn't find anything.)

Chris, that happens with me, too.

That would have to be an OS problem, not an Adium problem -- we don't control where menus actually appear onscreen.
