Is there any way (preferably automated) to get chat transcripts to consolidate? I recently started to use Adium, and I have 2 sets of conversations for most people. For example, for "Tim" with a screen name of "Tim000" on AIM, all pre-Adium conversations are listed under "Tim000" and all that happened with Adium are under "Tim (Tim000)". I'm wondering if there is a way to have Adium combine these for me.

i think if you just make those two screen names a meta-contact, you'll have all the chat transcripts from each screen name under that one meta-contact.

That's only true in Adium 1.0b, actually; Adium 0.89.1 had no concept of combined contacts in the log viewer.

I'm a little confused about the bug report, though; it looks like you're talking about the same screen name twice. How did you import your "pre-Adium conversations"?

A little followup investigation has shown that it doesn't seem to be imported transcripts that have problems. Rather it is people I chat with on my current .Mac screen name (I still plan to move to a regular AIM name someday, but not yet). For some reason their contacts are not in the combined contacts for a meta-contact (obviously yes, this is the beta).

So if I go to, for example, Kristi in my buddy list, then I select "View Chat Transcripts," it shows me two old conversations from this past May with my correct screen name, but with an AIM icon. However all of the conversations since are missing. Her entry in the list has the "Kristi (HerScreenName) format and her buddy icon, but in the conversation list is uses AIM icons.

Searching for her screen name in the list at the left shows her screen name with no Alias. Clicking on that reveals the 22 conversations since May. In this case both her entry on the list at the left and each individual conversation in the list have a .Mac icon. For whatever reason, these are not properly being treated as part of the buddy list.

Another contact, by the name of Oreste, has no entry in the past conversation list for his Alias (which is simply Oreste). Instead, there are separate entries for Yahoo, .Mac, and ICQ (from the times I have accidently messaged him ICQ -> AIM, I have since deleted my ICQ account to avoid this, as anyone on ICQ can just add my AIM name now). No unified Alias entry at all, even though in my buddy list both his Yahoo and AIM are one contact.

If you have any ideas please let me know. That aside, if this will not happen again if I nuke all existing saved transcripts, please let me know. I don't want to do this, but if it is sure to permanently fix my problems, I will.

As previously noted, in the forthcoming Adium 1.0 [in beta] this functionality is already present [the logs present themselves the same as the contact list, joined together.]

Related Question: I have some logs of ICQ convos that are saved as AIM logs. I think there was a time when Adium didn't differentiate those two. But how can I combine them now, so that they appear under the ICQ contact?

And another thing: Theres a .FBCSemaphoreFile in the Logviewer list, does that belong there?

There shouldn't be, a hidden file such as that is used for indexing and folder property tracking by the filesystem itself, not actual logging.

If by beta you mean the current beta release 1.0b17, that is what I am using. While implemented, it is not working properly for me.

I've been having this same issue. I actually reported a bug a couple of weeks ago, but no one has messed with the bug report yet.

I just upgraded to the final 1.0 version this evening and am still noticing the same issue. Some of my contacts show up twice and almost all of them are listed by their user name instead of their real names as I would prefer.

Not really sure what the issue is, but if I can be of any help in figuring this issue out, I would be happy to see the problem resolved.
