As m2e suggested, can you post your Adium's PREFERENCES->ADVANCED->ADDRESS BOOK preferences? It might be related to address book integration, though doubtful, its a better lead than anything else so far.

Maybe it's something similar to the AIM running-man icon; it's an avatar that the AIM service has as one of its defaults...

This appears to be an AIM serverside issue; the Gaim folks are getting similar reports.

So I am having the same problem, and also tried deleting all traces of adium from my computer and then re-downloading it – but the problem is still there. But the icon showing up on my buddy list isn’t the beach or the crosses – its this really weird cartoon asian guy with whiskers – like something out of pokemon. Basically, it’s the strangest thing ever. Any new thoughts on how to fix this problem since it doesn’t seem to be going away by itself? And should I be worried that other areas of my computer could be affected by some sort of virus?!

I think a virus is out of the question in this case, It seems to just be some mixup on the AIM servers - completely harmless - if a bit annoying.

So do you recommend that I, and the other people having this problem, do anything? Or just wait it out some more and see if the problem resolves itself?

Given the server-side nature of the issue there is no real alternative to waiting, it is in the service provider's hands.

If the icons are actually in themselves annoying, you can always assign that user a custom icon of your own choice (all of my buddies have a real life picture assigned, which is probably why I haven't seen this bug myself).

Im seeing it too its annoying me.

i have this problem too, only with the "good as gold" girl icon. ever since this icon appeared i'm also being kicked off a few times a day (some days less, some more), i don't receive all ims sent to me, & others don't receive all messages i send.

so i suppose i'm just wondering if there is any news? and if the icon thing is releated to my other issues?

I too am having a problem. Lots of friends on my list have that Notre Dame icon.

I too, see the Notre Dame icon, and it's really been bothering me for a few months now. Not because I can't change it, but rather because I am a current student at Penn State, and I really really really hate Notre Dame.

Is there no justice in the world? First Notre Dame sneaks into a BCS bowl game every year with a crappy team, then they invade my precious Adium.
