That's a good decision, but since I now opted out of having ANY local feeds just GR ones to keep it all in sync, it looked a bit more boring

Could there be a checkbox for loading GR favicons in preferences?

Personally I'm also going to do all GR feeds, with no local feeds, as I don't have any reason for not having all my feeds "in the sky", and I think many users will have it the same way. Maybe put a "G" on GR feeds but only if you also have local feeds? Ie. if there are no local feeds, just populate the icons with favicons without a G.

Yes I think most users who WILL keep local feeds will keep them separated in some other manner like a special folder. It looks nicer to have the favicons loaded on every feed.
sidenote: when I went all GR feeds the Growl-notification don't kick in at all?

Hi Guys!
some fixes/enhancement on this new build:
1) all feeds now have favicon (and google reader feed have a [G] in front of name)
2) Added a refresh subscriptions from google reader action
3) Added a force feed refresh from GR (THis mean that ALL feed items will be loaded from GR - so use carefully!!!!)
I'm working now of fixing GROWL issues and using sparkle to track new beta issues (of course I need to talk with others developers...).
I'm planning to releases this "beta" release on standard forum, so more users can tests GR sync.
What do you think ?
Tnx for your time,
Salvatore Ansani

To be honest, I didn't really like the [R] approach. It looks kind of ugly… Would it be hard to make it optional through a setting?
The Sparkle-update sounds great, would save a lot of time
Thanks for the GREAT work you put into this! I am very grateful for the things you have done with Vienna!

Hi Veke,
not so hard

Added to my TO-DO list
I think I'll add an option on Sync Preference panel.
Tnx for your time,
Salvatore

First, thank you for all the work involved.
I was wondering if this syncable version is supposed to work only with Lion (10.7.x). I still use Snow leopard (10.6.8) on an iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core Core 2 Duo, and I can't open any of the recent beta versions. The message I get is : "Can't open Vienna_new_beta because of a problem. Check with the developper if Vienna_new_beta is compatible with this version of Mac OS X".

the new release 2800.1 is snow leopard safe
get it via Sparkle (update the 2699.1) or via

First, thank you very much for the effort you've put into this. I'm already enjoying it.
I am having a problem with Google authentication with 2800.1.
I put 2800.1 on my 10.6.8.1 system that had been running the last version prior to your GR integration. First I removed the app folder in Application Support, and the preference file, and the cache folder. I turned off my network access and opened ViennaBeta and set the pref to sync with GR and to NOT update subscriptions when starting. Then I quit, reconnected to the network, and opened ViennaBeta. Got the Google authentication window, authenticated, clicked "Allow Access." The Google authentication window went away but then I got a drop-down in Vienna that Google authentication had failed. Quit/restarted several times with same results.
Seems to me that Google authentication must have succeeded or I would not have got to the Allow Access screen.
I also have 2699.1 on my 10.7.2 system, which is working well with a few issues (I'll post separately about them) but hesitate to try 2800.1 on it right now.

Other user reported same issue
I'm investigating on it. On 2800.1 I just did small modification on date parsing, I don't think this can be the issue
Stay tuned!

Found the error! It's JSON related. On 10.7.x JSON is available by default... Fixed

S, you're awsome!
Is this the right forum to post test results? I'm not a developer but have been using V for years now and do have some background in testing. Besides my 10.7.2 and 10.6.8.1 systems I've been using the free (non Pro) Feeddler on iOS to monitor feeds and have identified a few questionable issues in V. Should I post here?
thanks,

I think you can safely post there (or, if you have a github account, directly on github issue tracker).
did you updated to 2800.2 ? All ok ?
Tnx,
Salvatore

thanks! just updated and for once V on OS X seems to match Feeddler on iOS and my GR web view. I'll update my 10.7 system as soon as I can. I'd seen a few odd issues wrt unread counts & old/read messages and will report back after checking out the new version on 10.7 (my "main" system).
Again, thanks for your work on this! V's the best reader around and now we can read mobiley!

Lots of old/read articles appearing as new/unread.
Intermittently - but often - ViennaBeta picks up old/read articles as new/unread.
Running ViennaBetta 2800.3 on 10.7.2 and 10.6.8.1, monitoring with GR web page from a browser on OS X and from Feeddler on iOS.
Feeddler and the GR web page are always nearly in sync .
But ViennaBetta on either version of Mac OS will suddenly spike from a handful to several hundred (and I had over 40k once) old/read articles as new/unread -- including some showing dates with a year of "69" (before Al Gore invented the Internet?!).
Sometimes "Force Refresh Selected Subscriptions From Google Reader" across all subscriptions will bring the count down close to what the GR web page shows (and Feedldler). Other times I have to quit ViennaBeta and remove the Application Support folder (and I always remove the cache folder as well).
Then things will run fine for a while but sooner or later (in less than a day's viewing) something like that happens again.
I've looked at the -- er, verbose -- log entries but dont see anything that's screaming errors (or really any pattern).
Needless to say, this behavior makes Vienna less efficient than it is without GR sync'ing.

ViennaBeta (2800.3) high cpu usage
It's eating the system on refreshes. 100+ percent, fans racing, tons of log file entries, and referring to my other post about old/read records appearing as new/unread, slogs for a couple of minutes refreshing around 75 subscriptions.

Sorry for the double "t" in Beta -- was shoveling snow & fingertips a bit numb.

I just discovered the issue analyzing the Google Console report. Lot of Vienna access on Google OAuth 2.0 infrastructure so, sometime, token expire before 30 minutes. I'm planning a workaround

Can you send me your OPML file (from Google Reader) or just the RSS feed where you found this issue? I can't reproduce the "year 69" issue!
Tnx,
Salvatore

This is an issue related to high number of concurrent network connection (at least the one I addressed). I plan to add a preference option (like NetNewsire) to let the user choice the concurrent number of connection.
If you address this behavior when Vienna is not connected (this mean when Vienna is not refreshing anymore), let me know.
Tnx,
Salvatore

Salvatore,
The article showing a date of 12/31/69 is from 43Folders:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/43Folders. I'm not sure but I think that when this happens it's always that site and of course now I'll watch carefully. Attaching screen shot.
Thanks,
