Yes, I noticed that too. Problems appear to be related to tabs opened while clicking a download or RSS link.
I hope to fix that very soon.

The majority of the crashes appear to be memory-management-related (dealloc and the like). Has any thought been given to putting the whole project under ARC?

I mostly agree ARC is the way to go, on the medium term. But switching now would be a lot of work and would probably delay the next "production" release.
And we still have Leopard users. Living myself in a developing country, I feel their pain...

It seems ViennaBeta 2819 has eliminated most if not all of the crashes. I haven't experienced one since installing it.
Unfortunately, it's created a new bug, which I report here:

I am relieved getting an independant confirmation of the stability evolution !
In fact, the bug you noticed isn't really "new". It's been there for a while, but was hidden by another issue. But one could also argue that the main bug is in Apple's developer documentation

Latest version of GIMP does not require X11 anymore.
I have had my share of crashes under Mountain Lion with latest beta, but this morning the problem is different:
Vienna 3.0 beta 2819 will not start. The dock icon jumps once, and then nothing happens. I rebooted but no change.
Vienna 2.6 starts and works normally.
Edit: today after upgrading to 10.8.2, Vienna Beta works again. Maybe the "repair permissions" that I did first corrected something.
