Bad articals display in Vertical layout (Beta16)

Post by Turner »

In all versions since Vienna 3.0.0.b11 I have been getting bad listings of articles when viewing in Vertical layout with only Enclosure and Subject columns selected. Adding either Date or Author columns fixes the problem. OS X 10.8.4 - Mac Pro

Confirmed here under those limited circumstances. Oddly enough it happens only after highlight an article. Happens in all my feeds.

The previous occasions of similar bug appeared when the article was pulled down, so something slightly different is occurring.

Do you happen to use Vertical view in the particular way described here? viewtopic.php?f=18&t=26332
Not exactly. I have columns (read, flagged, subject) selected. I don't care a lot about enclosure. Adding any other columns gives me two lines per article (I thought that said "column", not line??), which is just as bad as all the lines offset by half.
Can you provide an example feed that you are still seeing this bug on?
All of them. For example, this feed, slashdot.

If it matters, OS X 10.6.

It does not seem to matter when the articles were downloaded -- old articles, ,articles downloaded since beta 16, current articles. All of them have the middle column in vertical view offset by half a line. It's like it's trying to display two lines in one line's space, and centering it around the two lines.

Any chance of this bug being fixed? It's still there in Vienna Beta 19 under OS 10.8.5
Looks like I'll just have to go back to Beta 11 version again as that was the last one which worked ok.

I will have a look on it… (in fact, I didn't understand the issue first…)
I contribute to Vienna RSS as a developer.

This is what i see in the vertical layout. Beta 11 was the last version I can use as well which does not do this. This screenshot is from Beta 19. Just doesn't quite line up right.

We've seen this experience occur due to a couple of bugs on occasions. As an interim step, I am fairly confident you will have this stop by adding more columns to your view, i.e. date posted, author etc.

I can see from the image that you have less columns enabled than the default, which was the precondition for triggering the related bugs before.

Have a play around with adding columns -- it would be very helpful to know which column you needed to add to cause the behaviour to revert.

The issue with adding more columns in the Vertical layout is the columns (such as date or author) do not appear beside but rather below which makes each headline take up double the space. Doesn't look as clean and neat to me personally.

Also hard to tell if this corrects the issue since the headline is still slightly above the blue dot, and whatever column you add is slightly below.

This bug only appeared in Beta 12. I've used Vienna in this layout since "View As A Webpage" became an option for viewing articles. Never a problem before that.

This is what the layout looks like in Beta 11 and previous with the same amount of columns.

Sorry, that solution didn't work in beta 12, and it doesn't work in the latest beta.
Every single one of my feeds has this problem. As I stated above, adding columns just puts the feeds in two line format, it does not fix anything. No suggestion has fixed this.

Something between beta 11 and beta 12 is causing the feed titles to display incorrectly in 3 column format and it has not been fixed in subsequent betas.

Behaviour has been fixed in today's Beta 20!!
I can confirm that! Thank you very much!!!

Edit:
I take it back. It's not fixed. It's just more subtle now.
I've found at least one feed where the titles are readable when I click on them, but they overlap weirdly with titles above or below them sometimes.

I'll characterize this if I can, but it is at least not nearly as annoying as it was in previous betas.

re-re edit:
It actually looks ok on most of my feeds. I've hit two so far that were strange, and I marked as read old articles, we'll see if the problem comes back in future ones.
