Vienna won't open anymore

Post by kristofferrom »

As of today my Vienna app won't open (mac OSX 10.14.5). It just bounces one time and nothing happens.

Any ideas on how to resolve?

Here's a stupid reply...try opening App folder, right-click/option-click the app, option-click "open", and see what happens.
I'm trying to get Mac security to come up and ask if its OK for a non-Apple app to open.
Of course, if it does, right-click/option-click "open' so the OS doesn't do this again (probably).

Worst reply?..uninstall/re-install. Of course that means bye-bye to all feeds etc.

A reinstall shouldn’t be necessary. Deleting the database will do.

But of course, THAT will also remove your subscriptions etc. ...

You mean control-click, not option-click (if not right-clicking).

/Paste

/end
Maybe, maybe not.
Sitting at my mac, I tried some of the actions I described...
"think" I mean what I typed...but then, I don't really care/know.
I use a "dove'-bar wireless touch-mouse in 3 button mode (with swipe).
All the actions I suggested WILL work with 2/3 button mouses.

Just have no idea if they work on the builtin touchpad.

Doesn't unfortunately. But thanks for the idea

There’s always Safe Mode. See instructions in Mac Help.

If Vienna opens in Safe Mode, then back up your subscriptions before restarting in normal mode.

Before deleting the database, you can try to recover some infos through the Terminal :
$ cd "Library/Application Support/Vienna"
$ sqlite3 messages.db
SQLite version 3.24.0 2018-06-04 14:10:15
Enter ".help" for usage hints.
sqlite> select feed_url from rss_folders ;
sqlite> select * from smart_folders ;
sqlite> .quit
$

Thanks - however, the terminal throws this error:

Code: Select all

Error: database disk image is malformed
. Not sure why though, as everything else runs smoothly on the machine.
