Version 3.7.4 :47310668: (7565) trying to install 3.8.1 update, crashes when extracting update. (error occurred)

I also get an error when trying to update to 3.8.1, running version 3.8.0 :47f3bd9f: (7816) on macOS 10.14.6. The update downloads OK, but fails during the extraction phase with the message "An error occurred while extracting the archive. Please try again later.".
