Uses Vienna its own hosts file, or none?

Post by alymbrua »

Does Vienna use a hosts file that is different from the one used by the system,* or bypass it?

I use a modified hosts file that Firefox and Safari do follow. Vienna does not; names in urls in pages displayed by Vienna are not resolved to the desired IPs.

* /private/etc/hosts aka /System/Volumes/Data/private/etc/hosts in Catalina

Vienna uses Apple's standard network tools. There is no reason it should behave differently from other apps.

The discrepancy you have seen might have been caused by a cache issue somewhere. Did you retry after a reboot ?
