low fps with perian h264 codec

hi, this is issue peeves me since 2007. i was just too lazy to make an account on this forum...

i've got here a 1080p 59.94fps H.264/AAC movie (20mbit/s).
with activated perian codec pack i get only 28-34 fps.
if i deactivate it, i get the full ~60fps with ease!
this happens with perian 1.1.1 -1.1.3 on my new MBP 2.8GHz! i didn't test the other versions!

the next thing is, i've got here an "old" MPB with 2.4GHz and a 8600m GT too. the leopard/QT version on this machine doesn't support GPU encoding for h264 movies. so on this machine the fps difference is much more worse -> i don't need a 60fps movie to test with, a normal apple movie trailer lasts out.
for example, with the "sex and the city" movie trailer you get really massive frame drops down till 12fps when the camera pans over the city.
with the native quicktime codecs the video plays with ease...

so why has perian an implemented h264 codec? qt supports h264 natively. is there anything the perian h264 codec can do better?

wipeout HD 1080p 60fps demo download (170mb file): http://www.gamershell.com/download_31348.shtml
sex and the city trailer download (teaser1 the 56mb file): http://www.apple.com/trailers/newline/sexandthecity/hd/
for example: sex and the city framedrops @ second 8-12 / 13-17 / ...

i'm sorry for my bad english, i did my best ;)

Try searching; your questions have been answered before. Also, 1.1.3 does not attempt to playback main or baseline profiles, but instead forces Apple's codec to play it (to the detriment of some other streams which Perian can playback well and Apple's cannot); so try it properly.
